A very quiet night, a semi well-known DVD, and a never-seen-before beautiful actress..

One bet to win, with one ally: the Internet. A lot of readers ask themselves: How do journalists get to know the stars they interview ? There are many ways. Those beautiful actresses can be contacted through their agencies. The interviews are constructed in many different ways, through different intermediaries and agencies, but it is the direct casual contact that keeps things very simple. However, when you do not know the identity of that star’s agency and more than that, you ignore from what country she is from, there exists a less frequently used way that can erase a lot of those problems: the Internet.
THE CHOICE
One very fine night of October, my friends and I all get together to watch a DVD. After seeing all the new releases, we inadvertedly turn to the classic B-movie, in this case “Riders” with Stephen Dorff and Natasha Henstridge. The movie is boring and very annoying until we notice a beautiful platinum blonde, blue-eyed (very deep) woman with a gorgeous body. All these different qualities freak us out, even before we notice her sculpturesque figure. A real fantasy that (even our engaged friend) we all have engraved in our minds from then on. Feeling a bit like you’re cheating, a little like a journalist but really like man, we all noticed her name: Karen Cliche. This is our dream’s name.
THE BET
Do you remember when you were in school ready to befriend undesireable people and even unattractive, unfriendly girls just to get to know the girl who has you under her
spell ? Ready to take cooking / computer classes after school. That adolescent sensation within us..here we are, the Internet. Ready to surf the net just to get to know more about our friend Karen.
THE VICTORY
The ambitious research takes me to my final destination. After getting a closer look at Karen’s artistic qualities we find out that: she was a blonde model in the past and a brunette actress in the present in some successful series overseas. She also worked with Francis Ford Coppola and starred in an MTV cult series called “Undressed”.
We download the trailers for the series “Adventure Inc.”, we admire her “Stuff” magazine editorial and read the comments on the “Mutant X” message board.
She’s Canadian. The daughter of an army military. Basically a tough girl. Also, judging from the roles she’s played, all adventurous. And, she has an ironic way of doing interviews. We then enter her site www.safesearching.com/karencliche. This way we have the possibility of leaving a message, in English of course. Within a few days, her agent answers us. After very little e-mails sent back and forth, we send her an example of articles we’ve written and we keep in constant contact. Until the day of the interview.
To compensate for the language problems, we were ready to practice the interview via e-mail, but we were anxious so we pushed to talk to her over the phone.
HELLO KAREN
Even with the distance seperating us or our way of communicating, my hand was shaking as I was trying to call the beautiful actress who can make the most consumed playboy lose his mind.
She answers at the first ring and all of a sudden we start chatting…
Q: Would you ever expect that someone would ever do this much to get to know you, to interview you in this way ?
K: It’s definitely very weird. I always see myself as very normal. At home I watch TV with my cat. I feel really honored when somebody is interested in me. It is something that makes me very happy.
Q: What is the craziest thing that someone has done for you ?
K: I’ve received various poems and also a painting. It’s very beautiful when you can communicate your feelings for someone on paper. It’s very romantic.
Q: To go back to us, what’s your relationship to the Internet ?
K: I’ve only had my own site for a few months. And only now am I learning the possibilities that the Internet gives you. Since I’ve been online, I even have old friends contacting me. People I had lost all contact to. And not to mention my fans, some whom I have a real connection to. One in particular is Scott. He dedicated a site to me which I like very much and very often we exchange ideas to refresh the site.
Q: Of all the characters you’ve played, a lot of them are courageous. How can you keep your femininity while you’re fighting ?
K: For a long time, the roles of men and women were very defined. But now things have changed. There is not just one way of being feminine and I believe that an intelligent, strong woman with a good sense of humor is very appreciated.
Q: Do you feel more blonde or brunette ?
K: After being blonde for a long time when I was a model, I felt the need to change. I was surer of myself and I followed my instincts. I played in “Adventure Inc.” and “Mutant X” as a brunette. However, I would redye my hair if a part called for it.
Q: Have you ever been to Italy ?
K: I lived a fantastic period in Milan. I was living with three other models and we had lots of fun. I did many photo shoots in and around Milan. And I remember taking splendid walks. I would love to go back. I travelled a lot with my father and I always love to learn about other cultures. And then in Italy I also fell in love. It was so hard to leave.
Q: Would you come back to Rome ?
K: Maybe for my honeymoon. I would really love to visit Rome.
Q: Are you getting married ?
K: No. Surely though, one day I would love to be..and with my boyfriend things are going great.
Q: What are your future work projects ?
K: Now we are filming episodes of “Mutant X” but in the spring I should be filming a movie in Montreal. I’m very happy because Montreal is the city where I live and where I feel at home.
Q: The last question. Are you sure that you want to wait until your honeymoon to visit Rome ?
